CP Kelco, a leading global producer of specialty hydrocolloid solutions, has announced approval from the company's boards of directors to build a new, world-scale processing plant in Latin America for dry citrus peel.

Citrus peel is the core raw material used to produce pectin, one of CP Kelco's strategic product lines.

Completion of the new citrus peel plant is targeted for the second half of 2016.

'CP Kelco is committed to ensuring that pectin remains a reliable ingredient for the global market over the long-term,' said Don Rubright, President of CP Kelco. 'As we address the current global shortage of citrus peel and the continuing growth in pectin demand, building a new peel facility is a strategic investment in the sustainability of this segment.'

The company is also expanding its pectin manufacturing facility in Limeira, Brazil, with completion targeted for this year.
