The nutraceutical combo was found to enhance skin hydration, elasticity and luminosity, while diminishing wrinkle length and pore volume

A study has highlighted the benefits of a nutraceutical formulation containing collagen and elastin peptides in skin health.

The 8-week trial was conducted in young and middle aged women and investigated the effects of a fish collagen tripeptide and elastin peptide supplementation.

Those assigned to the supplemental arm of the experiment were given a 25mL portion of fish collagen and elastin peptide daily.

After the trial period, participants given the collagen-elastin combination exhibited a 39% increase in skin hydration, while also seeing a 25% increase in skin elasticity.

The average dermal collagen content of volunteers was also boosted significantly (21.6%).

As well as boosting skin hydration and elasticity, the supplement regime also had a notable impact on the complexion of participants.

Wrinkle length was decreased by 18%, while skin luminosity was enhanced by up to 15%, and the average pore volume was diminished by 60%.

Yun Wang, member of the Department of Dermatology at the Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital, commented: “In this study, the combination of elastin peptides and fish collagen tripeptides exhibited a significant ability to nourish the skin, while also delivering anti-ageing effects."

"This nutraceutical combination effectively improved skin hydration, elasticity and firmness, which occurred due to the absorption of collagen from the supplement.”

The findings of this study highlight the benefits of collagen and elastin supplementation for beauty from within purposes.
