A few weeks ago, Genosa developed a new product and technology to incorporate natural Hydroxytyrosol into omega-3 oils.
Genosa has now taken a step further and has introduced its new Hytolive Infinity for edible oils.
The unsaponifiable fraction of virgin olive oils (VOO) is formed by phenols, tocopherols, phytosterols and other compounds. This minor fraction makes VOO different from other edible oils, which are produced through refining processes.
The antioxidant potential of VOO is mostly attributed to the role of phenols as disruptors of the oxidation chain by stabilising alkyl peroxide radicals generated in lipid oxidation.
Table olives are also a relevant source of free phenols. Hydroxytyrosol and tyrosol constitute the main phenols.
A wide clinical and scientific number of publications have demonstrated olive oil polyphenols antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. Hydroxytyrosol chemical structure (orto-diphenol) makes it special at showing outstanding properties related to blood circulation, skin, non alcoholic fatty liver disease, fibromyalgia, immune system and many others.
In fact, phenolic content is responsible for the unique health claim included in the European Regulation EU 432/2012 as “olive oil polyphenols contribute to the protection of blood lipids from oxidative stress”.
Carlos Peña, Genosa CEO, said: “Genosa is offering to the market the unique alternative to attribute the polyphenols healthy properties of VOO to any edible oil”.
“The number of functional oils than can be formulated with Hytolive Infinity is huge. There is a trend to formulate functional oils that include EPA, DHA and oleic acid. We open a new business opportunity for edible oils suppliers”, they added.
“By offering this combination, you can provide consumers an ideal and complementary combination because not only we do care about lowering of triglycerides but also about preventing blood lipids (LDL and vLDL cholesterol) from oxidative damage and hence the control of the atheroma plaques development. We definitely encourage edible oils companies to “olive their oils”.
“After several years of research trying to find the way of solubilising natural hydroxytyrosol in oils we got it. No additives, emulsifiers or encapsulation systems are used”.
