A novel study published in Frontiers in Behavioural Neurosciences has revealed the potential of Zeus Hygia Lifesciences' Stadice in boosting cognitive function and performance.1
A 300mg daily dose of the mango bark extract — which is standardised to mangiferin — was shown to improve cognition within seven days, highlighting the fast-acting nature of the nutraceutical.
The results of this study highlight the ingredient's benefits in the ever-growing population of gamers, with Priori Data estimating that there are 3.32 billion active gamers worldwide.2
According to Arun Krishnakumar, PhD, MBA, co-founder and director of India- based Zeus Hygia Lifesciences, this positive study fuels opportunities for cognitive performance supplement formulations.
The study
To assess the potential of Stadice in a gamer population, Zeus Hygia Lifesciences conducted a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study on 60 healthy gamers.
During the seven day study period, participants were either given 300mg of Stadice or a placebo.
Researchers then assessed the impact on cognitive ability through the Neurophysical Battery and Auditory verbal learning tests, as well as psychological stress response, anxiety, mood, subjective working memory and cortisol levels.
Throughout the study period, supplementation with Stadice was found to improve mental speed by 30%, while sustained attention increased by 37.3%.
Meanwhile focused attention and working memory increased by 16% and 19%, respectively.
Stadice also improved auditory verbal learning by 24.6%, while assisting in the management of psychological stres reactions such as irritability.
"Stadice holds promise for enhancing cognitive abilities in healthy adults — particularly those who engage in e-sports," the researchers concluded.
With wide-spanning improvements observed in participants and a good safety profile, Stadice could be a good option for individuals looking to improve their attention, focus, mental speed and memory.
It likely has this effect due to its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, as well as its capacity to reduce oxidative stress.
Previous research has found that mangiferin can improve aspects of working memory and selective attention through the inhibition of catechol-o-methyltransferase.
“The cognitive performance and brain health category is an energetic market performer and is set to reach approximately $12.9 billion in sales by 2028,” said Dr. Krishnakumar.
“For the first time, young adults are more interested in supporting brain health than older adults. Market research finds that those between 18–25 (27.3%) are more likely to consume cognitive-support supplements than those aged 26–49 (23.7%) and 50-plus (13.5%). Stadice® can also be explored as a pre-workout supplement which can help active gym enthusiasts or novices stay focused, energised and motivated.”
