Univar Solutions, a global chemical and ingredient distributor, has begun construction on a facility in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada. The SAP-ready facility is expected to open during the first half of 2023 and aligns with the company's long-term sustainability commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, it says. The facility will also include a whole-site tank telemetry system for real-time product inventory.
"Central to our growing together strategy is our customer, and the new Abbotsford facility will improve our ability to quickly and safely deliver products when and where they are needed with minimal carbon footprint, making us easier to do business with and helping us fulfill our purpose to keep communities healthy, fed, clean and safe," said Chris Halberg, VP of Local Chemical Distribution for Univar Solutions in Canada. "We're excited to build-on our leading position in the British Columbia market with more growth opportunities for our suppliers to meet local customer needs."
The facility is aimed to strategically place the company's products and services for efficiency. With larger chemical and ingredient storage as well as rail capacity and blending rooms for solvents, corrosives and oxidizers, the facility is reportedly designed with the company’s sustainability principles embedded throughout, designed to make blending more efficient while reducing the risk of incidents through the latest engineering controls.
"In addition to the many customer, supplier and sustainability benefits, employees will appreciate the efficient design and digital investments at the Abbotsford facility that will make it easier for them to do their jobs with safety top of mind at every step," said Halberg.
