TSI Group, a global nutraceutical company, has received an Informed Ingredient certification for its caffeine metabolite, enfinity paraxanthine.
enfinity, according to TSI, is free of impurities and substances which are currently banned in sports nutrition products, and is safer and more efficacious than caffeine.
Through a number of research studies, the company has highlighted the ingredient’s benefits in managing mental performance under stress.
The voluntary programme behind the Informed Ingredient certification ensures that all ingredients with this title have undergone routine testing for prohibited substances, allowing athletes to avoid issues associated with doping.
“Informed Ingredient certification is a proactive, consumer-driven initiative, and adds another layer of credibility and quality assurance for this already popular ingredient,” said TSI Group President Larry Kolb. “Combined with science, it assures our customers that enfinity® is a next-generation ingredient that is both effective and safe for athletes to use.”
The functional ingredient was designed to have a better flavour profile than caffeine, with the company claiming that its bitter flavour is no longer present — facilitating its easy incorporation into sports nutrition products.
It also has 23 filed patents, and six human clinical studies backing its efficacy. Such studies found enfinity’s benefits to be:
- Provides energy focus and wakeful clarity
- Combats cognitive fatigue
- Acts as a neuroprotective cognitive accelerant
- Improves reaction time
- Reduces mental errors
- Reduces feelings of hunger
- Increases caloric expenditure and thermogenesis
- Less associated side effects compared to caffeine
- Consistent results, and a reduction in caffeine-associated crashes
