Microphyt will be debuting its novel microalgae-based functional ingredient for gut health, ZenGut, at this year's SupplySide West.
At Booth #4472, the company will be on hand to discuss the benefits of ZenGut, as well as a clinical study on its efficacy that is soon to be released.
The nutraceutical is designed to support the gut-brain axis by modulating the gut microbiome and promoting its health and diversity.
According to Microphyt, results of the clinical study (which is yet to be published) on ZenGut found that a 250mg serving could significantly reduce gastrointestinal (GI) discomfort.
It also enhanced a user's mood and improved the diversity of their gut microbiome within a four week supplementation period.
Catering to the growing gut health demand
Consumers are becoming increasingly interested in finding natural solutions that can boost their gut health and overall wellbeing.
As digestive disorders affect nearly 40% of the global population, there is clearly a unmet need across the consumer population to improve these symptoms so they can feel the best they can,
To combat this challenge, Microphyt is applying its hydro-biomimetic technology to harness the power of microalgae in gut health.
Through the replication of microalgae's natural environment via the proprietary technology, Microphyt can cultivate diverse microalgae strains at scale.
According to the company, ZenGut contains a blend of bioactive ingredients, including omega-3 ALA, carotenoids, essential amino acids, sterols and PEA.
Microphyt's Clinical Research Manager, Dr Jonathan Maury, commented: “Harmony starts from within, and our research demonstrates that ZenGut positively influences the gut-brain axis, which is central to both gut health and mood regulation,”
“Neurotransmitters that regulate mood are largely produced in the gut, so imbalances in the gut microbiota can lead to both digestive issues and emotional strain. By addressing these two aspects together, ZenGut naturally fosters a balanced gut and promotes mental well-being, helping to reduce stress and enhance overall well-being.”
