As a result, the California Prune Board is using Men’s Health Week, which takes place 15-21 June 2020, to encourage men to think about their bone health and the steps they can take to improve skeletal strength.
Kevin Verbruggen, European Marketing Director for the California Prune Board, explains: “Bone health can be maintained with help from a healthy lifestyle and regular weight-bearing exercise, along with eating a balanced, nutrient-rich diet."
"It's commonly understood that both calcium and vitamin D are important for good bone health, but other micronutrients, such as manganese and vitamin K also contribute to the maintenance of normal bones, both of which are present in California Prunes. Prunes are supported by the IOF as an example of a fruit high in bone-healthy vitamin K.”
The California Prune Board, which works globally to raise awareness of the premium prunes supplied by the US state’s growers and packers, is continuing to support research investigating the specific mechanisms by which prunes have been shown to benefit bone health.
Kevin adds: “Snacking on California Prunes, or including them as ingredients in sweet or savoury dishes and baked goods, can have a beneficial effect on skeletal health, in addition to the known digestive health benefits of prunes and being a great fibre source.”
