The award celebrates organisations and individuals in the public, private, and social sectors who are pushing boundaries and advancing innovation across industries, regions and communities.
A global standard for innovation
Founded in 2006 as a small Norwegian company, Aker BioMarine has since grown into a leader in the billion-dollar Antarctic krill industry. The company has pioneered sustainable krill harvesting and established a global ecosystem of research, product development and market expansion.
“This recognition is a testament to our dedication to innovation and aligns us with a global standard of excellence. We have come a long way since our first trip to Antarctica, and this award belongs to everyone who has been part of our journey – our owners, partners and, especially, our employees,” said CEO of Aker BioMarine, Matts Johansen.
Johansen emphasised that while technology, science, and R&D have been crucial, investments in culture and team have been equally vital. “With the right setup, we've stayed on track in real-time while keeping an eye on the future.”

The GIMI award joins Aker BioMarine’s growing list of accolades, including recognition as "Norway’s Most Innovative Company" and "Europe’s Most Innovative Company."
