Canadian plant-based protein company Burcon NutraScience has announced its recent operational and commercial milestones, which it says demonstrate its accelerating momentum in the firm's scale-up and commercialisation strategy.
In a statement, Burcon said it has achieved record production during the past several weeks, increasing average daily output by approximately 40% compared to the calendar Q1 average.
The firm said this "proves production capability needed to achieve 2026 goals."
Burcon, along with its manufacturing partner, RE ProMan LLC, said it is actively exploring opportunities for additional capacity expansion to meet future customer needs.
The company has successfully broadened its commercial presence, now serving more than 20 customers across various food and beverage categories.
These categories include ready-to-mix beverages, nutrition products and plant-based food applications, highlighting the increasing market acceptance of Burcon's protein ingredients.
Additionally, Burcon noted that there is rising demand for its entire product portfolio, which includes Peazzaz, FavaPro and Puratein. These products are specifically designed to offer high purity, functionality, taste and solubility for a wide range of applications.
"We are encouraged by the continued progress across both our operations and commercial activities," said Kip Underwood, CEO, Burcon.
Increased record production levels, a growing base of buying customers and continued capacity expansion efforts reflect a business gaining traction in the market.
"Our focus remains on scaling efficiently, supporting customer growth and executing against our path to profitability."
