Rousselot has published two human studies highlighting the efficacy of its collagen peptide in a beauty from within context.
The studies assessed the ability of Peptan in enchancing markers of skin beauty, while also looking into the bioavailability and absorption of the nutraceutical.
The company will showcase the findings at this year's Vitafoods Asia in Bangkok.
Peptan for healthy skin
The first clinical study investigated the influence of collagen peptide supplementation on visible signs of skin ageing and beauty in 85 women aged 40 to 65.
Participants were given 5g of the nutraceutical per day for 12 weeks, and results were compared to the placebo group.
Those supplementing with Peptan showed significant improvements in skin density, hydration and elasticity — while also experiencing a visible reduction in wrinkle depth.1
Collagen ingredient exhibits optimal bioavailability
In the follow-up to the beauty from within-focused study, Rousselot, BioTeSys and Triskelion conducted a crossover trial to explore the bioavailability of the collagen nutraceutical.
The study assessed the absorption of di and tripeptides — as well as free amino acids — from porcine skin, bovine hide and fish skin.
Researchers measured the plasma concentrations of free and peptide-bound hydroxyproline, which is considered a biomarker for enhanced collagen presence in the body.2
The findings also highlighted the consistent bioavailability of the collagen peptides tested across the ranges of molecular weights and animal sources.
