Parabel, a US-based producer of plant protein ingredients, has signed a distribution agreement with CK Ingredients for the commercialisation of LENTEIN, an award-winning plant protein for the nutraceutical sector in the Canadian market.
Habbo de Vaere, VP of Global Sales at Parabel, commented: "CK are the perfect match for us. They are established in Canada where LENTEIN just received full regulatory approval and they serve the industries Parabel is operating in."
Headquartered in Ontario, CK is a supplier of raw materials for the food industry. The company has been providing value-added functional and nutritional ingredients to the Canadian human nutrition market since 1994. The company works with food, beverage and nutraceutical clients across Canada.
Parabel's LENTEIN protein is derived from Lemnoideae, a water lentil, which is known as 'the world's most complete food source' and is a minimally processed ingredient that goes from farm to table in only 20 minutes.
The protein ingredient has known for having the highest levels of essential amino acids of all plant protein, is non-GMO, free of major allergens and fully sustainable.
The announcement comes only months after Parabel announced the construction of its second commercial facility in Vero Beach, Florida, where Parabel's existing commercial plant already is located.
The new facility will be up and running by June and produce up to 3,500 tons of protein per year.
Plant-based nutrition
For Parabel, LENTEIN has proven highly successful in many different applications such as beverages, snacks and bars.
Michael Chernyak, CK Ingredients President, says: "Parabel's innovative LENTEIN plant protein perfectly complements our existing raw material portfolio."
Chernyak added: "In today's marketplace, novel plant protein sources are experiencing strong demand and our clients are always looking for ways to differentiate themselves on-shelf and online.
"The timing of this partnership with Parabel could not be better,"he concluded.
CK will distribute the full range of Parabel's LENTEIN plant protein ingredients into the nutraceutical sector and will be adding expertise in areas like application development, regulatory, logistics and traceability.
