NXT USA has published a narrative review on its gut health nutraceutical, Digexin.
The article, which was published in Cureus, offers a deep-dive into the functional ingredient’s efficacy and safety profile.
Key findings on the gut health nutraceutical include its ability to:
- Address common gastrointestinal issues such as bloating
- Enhance gut motility
- Support gut microbial balance
- Reduce inflammation
The review also details the impacts that Digexin can have on the gut-brain axis — mainly focusing on its ability to boost a user’s mental health.
By increasing serotonin (a ‘happy neurotransmitter) and decreasing cortisol (a stress hormone) Digexin can address gastrointestinal disorders that often originate in the mind, NXT USA claims.
Eric Withee, Director of Ingredient Innovation at Freemen Nutra, commented: “Until now, gut-health products really have only referred to the gut-brain axis in terms of modulating the gut for some downstream benefit for the mind or various other systems. Products that work through the mind to alleviate GI issues like constipation, indigestion, or reflux are effectively non-existent.”
“Half of all GI disorders originate in the mind, and the mind arguably exerts the most influence over symptom presentation and intensity. Until Digexin, the number of brain-to-gut solutions had been zero.”
Digexin can be incorporated into a variety of dietary supplement modalities targeting gut health, while also being suitable for inclusion into functional foods and beverages.
