Colorcon, a supplier of film coating systems and excipients for medicines and supplements, has qualified as a preferred supplier with the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC).
The NASC is a non-profit industry advocacy and educational group dedicated to “protecting and enhancing the health of companion animals in the United States”. To qualify for the preferred supplier seal, a company’s raw materials must meet the group’s quality standards, with multiple batches of the ingredients being tested by an NASC-approved laboratory to ensure compliance.
Colorcon hopes this recognition provides pet brands with confidence the supplier’s ingredients have been tested, validated, and deemed safe for use in animal health and nutritional supplements.
The company’s coatings and excipients are used in the pharmaceutical and dietary supplement industries and offer non-GMO raw materials manufactured in dedicated GMP facilities. Extending the use of these materials to animal health products enables formulation development from the basic core materials to the final dosage form. The company’s products can be used to provide stability and taste-masking for chewables and tablets.
“Colorcon is extremely proud to contribute to the health and wellness of humans and companion animals alike by carrying the seal of approval from one of the most trusted organizations in the animal health industry. Pets are extensions of our families and deserve products that are safe, effective, and of the highest quality in the industry today,” said Kurt Fegely, MD, Colorcon Americas.
“We are pleased to welcome Colorcon as a member of the NASC preferred supplier program. With the increased scrutiny on suppliers and supply chain management, NASC sets the bar high to qualify for this program,” said Bill Bookout, NASC president. “Colorcon has met our stringent requirements and has demonstrated the commitment to quality and vigilance that we expect from our trusted supply chain partners.”
