Published: 12-Jun-2025

The webpage details the current sustainability status of the omega-3 industry with the aim to boost transparency

The Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3s (GOED) has launched an educational portal focused on sustainability in the global EPA and DHA omega-3 category.

The online portal is designed to be a comprehensive resource for industry professionals, regulators and NGOs, offering transparency into the sustainability credentials of the modern omega-3 sector.

The webpage covers:

  • What sustainability means in today's omega-3 industry
  • The breadth and complexity of the EPA and DHA supply chain
  • Sustainability profile of omega-3s depending on source (eg. algae, fish-derived)
  • GOED's role in championing omega-3 sustainability

The webpage's goal is to benchmark the sustainability performance of the omega-3 industry, a well as identifying practical ways GOED can promote continuous improvement across its global membership.

“Stakeholders worldwide are asking tougher questions about the environmental and social costs of production — and omega-3s are no exception,” commented GOED’s Director of Sustainability and Market Intelligence, Chris Gearheart.

“This portal showcases the omega-3 industry’s longstanding commitment to evidence-based research, responsible practices and leadership."

"We invite the broader supplement industry to use this portal to spark new conversations about what sustainability looks like in the nutrition space.”
