Scheduled to open in 2026, the new units will reinforce Capsulae’s expertise in developing high-performance encapsulation solutions with a reduced environmental footprint.
This latest investment forms part of an ambitious innovation strategy. In 2022, Capsulae established a 410 m² Central Laboratory and a 465 m² Pilot Platform in La Rochelle, dedicated to process optimisation and prototyping.
Earlier this year, the company launched the ECCOCAPS Joint Research Laboratory with the University of Le Mans and the CNRS to advance ecofriendly encapsulation technologies.
The new pilot workshops will feature cutting-edge equipment, including a next-generation multi-effect spray drying system operating in closed circuit to preserve heat-sensitive compounds, and a versatile fluidised bed unit capable of handling 50–100 kg batches of high-value ingredients.
With these new resources, Capsulae will be able to shorten development cycles through advanced digital modelling, reduce formulation footprints by at least 30% with closed-loop systems and bio-based materials, and provide next-generation coatings for sensitive actives such as enzymes, probiotics and vitamins.
The facilities will also enable industrial pilot batches to validate product performance before full-scale production.
By investing in these capabilities, Capsulae confirms its role as a strategic partner in the industrialisation of functional ingredients.
Its integrated approach, from laboratory research through to industrial scale-up, supports customers across fast-growing markets including aquaculture, probiotics as alternatives to pesticides, and algae-based ingredients.
Capsulae is a subsidiary of Innov’ia, a leader in developing tailor-made functional ingredients for the food, nutraceutical, cosmetic and pharmaceutical sectors.
