Dutch company BioActor has chosen Active Pharmaceutica as the exclusive distributor of WATTS'UP, its proprietary sports performance ingredient, for the compounding pharmacy market in Brazil.
Headquartered in Pedra Branca, a municipality of Palhoça, Santa Catarina, Active Pharmaceutica is an importer and distributor of pharmaceutical ingredients. The company will be actively supported by the Maastricht-based company with scientific and formulation input.
"BioActor is very pleased to start this new partnership with Active Pharmaceutica to launch WATTS’UP in the rapidly growing compound pharmacy market in Brazil," the company said in a statement.
Sweet orange extract
WATTS'UP is a customised flavonoid extract from sweet orange, which can be formulated in a wide range of sports and exercise nutritional products.
The ingredient was tested in two placebo-controlled and double-blind studies, with results showing both an aerobic and anaerobic power increase in athletes.
WATTS’UP has a positive effect on the efficiency of the mitochondria and helps to increase ATP production, BioActor claims. The most recent clinical study also showed a significant effect of WATTS’UP on peak power in a Wingate Test in moderately trained male and female participants. A low daily dose of 400-mg has shown to be sufficient to reach this beneficial effect.
The ingredient is currently available on the market in the US and Europe. "The next step is to expand the footprint of WATTS'UP in Latin America, starting from the compounding pharmacy market in Brazil," BioActor's statement concluded.
