Seppic has launched Sepitone, a beauty-from-within ingredient designed to help consumers achieve a "natural and healthy glow".
Consumers are more and more interested in edible solutions in their quest for healthy skin. According to Mordor Intelligence's nutricosmetics market research, the beauty-from-within market has grown from a niche category to a consistent segment of almost $7bn.
Healthy, glowing skin can be measured through a combination of parameters such as colour, evenness and softness. These factors can be beneficially influenced by an antioxidant-rich diet. Made without additives or preservatives, Sepitone is a natural ingredient, obtained from fermented wild bilberry extract, rich in proanthocyanidins. Proanthocyanidins reportedly offer a protection against oxidative stress, and research in the Journal of Medicinal Food has suggested beneficial effects on collagen, skin elasticity and blood circulation.
Sepitone's efficacy was demonstrated on a panel of 60 women with dull skin during a randomised, double-blind and placebo controlled clinical trial, the company says, during which beneficial effects were observed on skin colour, the evenness of skin tone, skin roughness and the harmonisation of skin microcirculation (publication pending peer review).
Lea Marchal, Marketing Product Manager said: "This new active ingredient, first introduced at Vitafoods 2021, in Geneva, allying efficacy and naturality, is the new example of Seppic expertise in Beauty-from-Within. Seppic teams design ingredients driven by science with the most care for people's health and desire for naturality."
