NEWTRITION X. is the first international industrial event completely dedicated to Personalised Nutrition. Taking place in Lübeck on 12 September, an international congress will explore the trend for personalised nutrition from an interdisciplinary perspective involving the food industry, nutritional medicine, molecular biology and economics.
Peter Brabeck-Letmathe
Keynote speaker, Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, President Emeritus Nestlé S.A., will open the event. He is regarded by some as one of the most important minds in the food industry, who was an early advocate of an individual diet.
Market analysts see personalised nutrition as one of the key trends in the food industry.1 The concept has found its way into R&D at food companies because of its potential within the industry.
Under the leadership of Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, Nestlé (the world’s largest food corporation) has focused on this topic and in 2011 founded Nestlé Health Science. Based on research into nutrigenomics and the intestinal microbiome, their aim is to develop personalised nutritional strategies that work to combat prosperity diseases such as obesity and diabetes.
In his book “Nutrition for a better life”, Brabeck-Letmathe describes the concept as an engine for the industry: “The issue of health in the coming decades will trigger a wave of innovation in the food industry. Its advanced technology will play a crucial role in improving the health of entire population groups. The role of science-based personalised health nutrition in the future is to find efficient and cost effective ways to prevent and treat the acute and chronic diseases of the 21st century.”2
Key to the success of this mission is the conversion of research results into viable concepts for the food industry.
Prof Dr Christian Sina, nutritionist at the University of Lübeck, comments: “Thanks to intensive research, food companies now have the tools they need to make personalised nutrition a marketable concept. The desire for self-optimisation will provide consumers with the corresponding impetus to purchase. What matters is that food companies do not miss the train.”
The industry network foodRegio e.V. invites decision-makers from the food industry and retail to inform themselves about the latest research, innovative solutions and huge potential of personalised nutrition. After the presentations, there will be an opportunity to exchange ideas and take part in discussions with the speakers.
