Layn Natural Ingredients, a supplier of natural botanical extract ingredients and solutions serving the food, beverage, flavour and nutraceutical markets has announced the launch of SophorOx. The natural antioxidant extract ingredient is supported by a study demonstrating its ability to inhibit oxidative stress and support a healthy inflammation response, and is suitable for use in human dietary supplements, sports nutrition, and personal care applications, as well as pet supplements.
A recent in-vivo study done by Vedic Lifesciences reportedly demonstrated the extract is a potent antioxidant. The research showed daily oral administration of SophorOx, at an equivalency of 500 mg per day for an average adult, significantly reduced oxidative stress and inflammation markers associated with high intensity exercise. Daily oral administration in animal subjects was also shown to be safe, having no adverse effects in terms of feed intake, body weight gain, liver function, blood glucose levels, or signs of toxicity.
The extract was shown to inhibit several pro-inflammatory compounds and reactive molecules that cause oxidative stress.
A preliminary in-vitro cell line study also supported the ingredient as a potent antioxidant, displaying its ability to block mediators of oxidative stress and inflammation.
SophorOx is particularly suitable for nutraceutical products designed to support joint health, inflammation, exercise recovery, cognition, eye health, heart health, allergies and skin health, the company says. It can be used as a standalone ingredient, or in combination with complementary ingredient formulations.
“At the core of Layn Natural Ingredients’ vision is innovating natural botanical solutions that benefit people, pets and the planet,” said Jim Roza, CSO at Layn USA. “We developed SophorOx™ by looking at consumer trends and needs, including healthy agers and millenials, who are increasingly seeking natural, preventative strategies to live longer, healthier lives, along with sports and active consumers who experience oxidative stress and are looking to natural solutions for post-work out healthy inflammation support, and the growing populations of gamers, workers and students increasingly in front of computers, not to mention pets who can also benefit from this powerful ingredient.”
Derived from Sophora japonica L., the ingredient is reportedly sustainably produced and traceable. The natural, botanical ingredient contains polyphenols standardised to ≥ 90% flavonoids, including quercetin, rutin, isorhamnetin, kaempferol, genistin and genistein.
