Effervescent vitamin tablets bring sunshine to Brits low on vitamin D
Taking a vitamin supplement is a great way to get the recommended daily allowance of vitamin D
British summers are famous all over the world ... but usually for all the wrong reasons.
Muddy festivals, washed out Wimbledon and downpours during village fetes are all too common. However, although British summers are the brunt of many jokes, it is far from a laughing matter when it comes to the health of the UK population.
According to scientists, the lack of sunshine is actually having a detrimental effect on British peoples’ health — causing some of them to be low in vitamin D. The lack of UK sunshine, and the advice to cover up when it does appear to protect against the harmful effects of UV rays, is preventing much of the population from receiving healthy amounts of this essential vitamin from UVB exposure.
And the issue is so bad that natural food sources alone are not enough to boost levels. The new advice from Public Health England is that people should consider taking a daily supplement, particularly during autumn and winter.
People who have a higher risk of vitamin D deficiency are being advised to take a supplement all year round. Scientists from the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) say at risk groups include those whose skin has little or no exposure to the sun, such as those in care homes or those who choose to cover their skin when they are outside. People with dark skin, from African, African-Caribbean and South Asian backgrounds, may also not get enough vitamin D from sunlight in the summer.
Effervescent vitamins are one of the most convenient ways to supplement vital vitamin D into diets. VÖOST, the latest fizzy range of vitamins and minerals to hit UK shorelines, is bringing light to the population thanks to their exclusive range of vitamin D supplements. Great-tasting effervescent vitamin D tablets are a perfect addition to busy Brit’s lives.
Thomas Siebel, owner of VÖOST, said: 'The lack of British summertime sun really is no laughing matter. vitamin D is one of the most vital nutrients the body needs to function correctly. And although it has long been said that adults were able to easily make up their daily allowance, this new research highlights just the opposite.'
It’s estimated that one in five adults have low levels of vitamin D. Imperative for vitality and health, it contributes to normal blood calcium levels and helps support normal bone formation.
The best natural food sources of vitamin D include only a small number of foods, such as oily fish, red meat, liver and egg yolks. It's also found in fortified foods such as some breakfast cereals and fat spreads, whereas VÖOST’s vitamin D supplement boasts 100% of a person’s RDA.
Thomas added: 'Taking a vitamin supplement is a great way to get the recommended daily allowance of vitamin D.'
VÖOST’s range of vitamins and minerals are delicious and easy to add in to busy lives. Containing no added dairy, lactose or yeast, VÖOST is committed to ensuring that everyone is able to reach their potential and live a long, healthy, happy life. And ensuring people have the right levels of vitamins and minerals is key to this.
