Owing to a fire that occurred in a BASF plant in Ludwigshafen, Germany at the end of July 2024, the company has declared a Force Majeure on deliveries of a number of its vitamin A, carotenoid and vitamin E products.

This is also in effect on selected aroma ingredients the company offers, and will be effective until further notice.

The impacted ingredients are:

  • Ionones
  • Pyranol
  • DL-menthol
  • Rose oxides
  • Ethyllinalool
  • Nerolidol
  • Isophytol R

BASF has said that it's in contact with its customers to inform them of any supply chain developments.

The fire occurred at the Ludwigshafen site that manufactures aroma ingredients and precursors for the production of vitamin A, vitamin E and carotenoids.

All employees who were injured in this event left the Medical Centre on the evening of the incident, and there was no contamination of the air, water or soil surrounding the site, according to BASF.

The company also deployed environmental monitoring vehicles, which didn't detect any product residues on the site.

The relevant authorities have been informed.

The incident has also caused damaged to the plant, which has resulted in the supply disruption of the products in question, though cleaning, inspection and repair work is currently underway.
