The funding from Innovate UK will allow the company to accelerate the development of its botanical metabolite biomanufacturing platform

Green Bioactives, a natural products developer, has been awarded a grant from Innovate UK, which was given in collaboration with the University of Edinburgh.

The GBP £224,000 grant was awarded through Innovate UK’s Engineering Biology research and development programme, and aims to accelerate the creation of Green Bioactive’s biomanufacturing platform for high-value plant metabolites.

Optimising functional ingredient manufacturing

Plant metabolites that are suitable for nutraceutical applications often require extensive and complex extraction processes, which can be costly both in terms of environmental impact and time.

Green Bioactives promises to make the process more simple and environmentally friendly with its platform.

CEO of Green Bioactives, Dr David McElroy, commented: “We are honoured to receive this prestigious grant from Innovate UK. This funding will be instrumental in advancing our research and development efforts, allowing us to create a truly innovative biomanufacturing platform. Our goal is to transform the way high- value plant metabolites are produced, making the process more sustainable and efficient.”

Innovate UK, the UK’s innovation agency, supports business-led innovation across all sectors, technologies and UK regions.

The engineering biology collaborative research and development grant is designed to support projects that leverage engineering biology to develop new solutions and products, fostering collaboration between industry and research organisations.
