Unibar launches CapsiClear — the first capsanthin ingredient for eye health

Published: 8-Apr-2020

Unibar Corporation — a supplier of high-quality, environmentally responsible, science-based ingredients — announces the launch of patent-pending CapsiClear, the first capsanthin ingredient for eye health formulations

CapsiClear is a unique combination of carotenoids sourced from Capsicum annum, Indian red chilies, grown by contract cultivation in southern India.

It is standardised to 50% capsanthin and works synergistically with zeaxanthin and cryptoxanthin to provide eye health benefits beyond what many other ingredients do.

Like other vision health ingredients, CapsiClear supports proper management of macular pigment density and helps to protect the eyes from the effects of blue light.

Its key differentiators, according to two clinical studies on the novel ingredient, is that the capsanthin extract provides support for photostress recovery to help with eye fatigue, reading speed improvements regarding white and blue light, and is vital in helping reduce intraocular pressure (IOP).

Maintaining IOP at proper levels is vital for long-term vision health. Elevated IOP levels can lead to serious risk of multiple eye conditions and permanent eye damage.

“Because there is little to no previous research on the benefits of capsanthin, we have spent the last 8 years developing and researching this new molecule and the results are astounding,” said Mr Sevanti Mehta, President of Unibar.

“We have a new ingredient formulation that takes a very comprehensive approach to eye health and is a perfect addition to existing products or as a supplement by itself. After the success of our first two studies, we look forward to additional research to further understand CapsiClear’s mechanisms of action and the scope of its benefits.”

The world is increasingly becoming more digital leading to a need for more holistic eye health solutions. And with the ongoing worries about COVID-19, most consumers are choosing to stay indoors.

Being unable to leave their homes, except for certain necessities, people will be turning more often to screens while working from home, participating in online classes and coursework, as a source of entertainment, and to keep up with family and friends that are out of reach owing to social distancing.

The increase in screen time means an increase in blue light exposure and sedentary lifestyles, both of which can negatively affect eye health over time. CapsiClear provides benefits that consumers of all ages need to better protect their vision.

CapsiClear is manufactured according to ISO, cGMP, HAACP, and PMDA requirements. It holds self-affirmed GRAS status and is certified Kosher, Halal and parve.
