Inca Inchi Oil receives international certification for sustainable agriculture

POLARIS (www.polaris.fr), which also obtained Friend of the Sea certification for its marine oil range of products in 2010, is a major producer of polyunsaturated fatty acids.

Inca Inchi (Plukenetia volúbilis linneo) is a plant from the Peruvian Amazon region that has been known to the native people for several thousand years. Inca Inchi seeds produce a unique and exceptional oil with a very characteristic bean pod taste.

The seeds come from a fully integrated production chain — from planting to processed oil — and are guaranteed to be chemical-free. No natural ecosystem was destroyed to cultivate Inca Inchi, no pesticides are used and some producers have been organic certified.

The organisation has defined goals, management and conservation strategies for soil. No irrigation is required as the plants grow exclusively on rainwater. The producers, as well as POLARIS, are fully compliant with Social Accountability requirements and, in addition, the positive economic return has helped to improve the living standards of local farmers.

'Social accountability and environmental conservation are core values for POLARIS,' comments Véronique Sancéau, Marketing manager at POLARIS. 'In this sense we believe this Friend of the Earth certification, following our Friend of the Sea certification, represents another important point of recognition for our company.'
