Clasado Biosciences, a developer of prebiotic ingredients and products, has appointed Dr Gediminas Baltulionis to the role of Scientist and R&D Specialist.

Baltulionis will support further research into the company's prebiotic galactooligosaccharide (GOS) ingredient, Bimuno. The ingredient is currently supported by more than 100 scientific publications, the company says, including more than 20 clinical trials.

Baltulionis’ experience includes a Clasado-funded Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) research project at the University of Reading. He has previously led large scale research projects at Dextra Laboratories and Biocatalysts.

Dr Lucien Harthoorn, R&D Director at Clasado Biosciences, said: “It’s a delight to welcome Dr Baltulionis to Clasado. He’s already a familiar face to many members of our team through his project work at the University of Reading. At Clasado, we pride ourselves on taking a forward-thinking approach to scientific development, anticipating the future needs of the market.

"We’re looking forward to seeing Dr Baltulionis make his mark on the business as we continue to grow our global operations and deliver on our message of better and more accessible gut health.”

Baltulionis said: “I’m delighted to join the talented team at Clasado. As we know, gut health awareness is surging on a truly global scale. Consumers are getting to grips with the importance of the gut microbiome and of beneficial bacteria, and the prebiotic category is set to play an enormous role in how health and wellbeing brands meet the needs of tomorrow’s consumer. In my role, I will be building on the extremely strong scientific base of Bimuno and helping to shape the next generation of study."
